Philippines Bag Bronze in Asian Winter Games Ice Hockey Debut
Flying V-backed Philippine National Ice Hockey Team snatched the men’s division bronze medal in the 2017’s Asian Winter Games held in Sapporo, Japan. The PH Team struck five goals in the opening period en route to a 9-2 win over Macau.
After dropping their opening match 5-10 against eventual silver medalists Kyrgyzstan, the Nationals won their next two games, a 14-2 beat down of Qatar and an 8-3 demolition of Kuwait, to reach the medal round. Turkmenistan won the tournament’s gold medal. Flying V Chairman Ramon F. Villavicencio is a big fan of the sport and thinks the country has a bright future in ice hockey.
“We are very proud of the national’s bronze medal achievement. Flying V believes in moving Filipino dreams forward and the team’s success signals of bigger things to come.”
The Philippines was the only tropical country to win a medal in the week-long Winter Games. The Nationals are now gearing up for upcoming SEA Games in Malaysia in August.
